Actor Mohanlal reacted to being named as the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023, the country’s highest recognition in cinema. He dedicated the award to the Malayalam film industry.
Mohanlal, while reacting to the prestigious honour, told ANI, “With deep sense of humility and gratitude, I accept this award. This is an award for Malayalam film industry, its legacy and artistry. It is one of the greatest moments of my life I never thought about it. Thank you very much to the jury and government for selecting me. I am just dedicating this award to the Malayalam industry, everyone who walked with me and shaped me, all artists, directors and my colleagues.”
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting shared a post on X confirming the news. The note read, “Mohanlal’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! The legendary actor, director, and producer is being honoured for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. His unmatched talent, versatility, and relentless hard work have set a golden standard in Indian film history (sic).”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the actor on X. He wrote, “Mohanlal epitomises excellence and versatility. With a rich body of work spanning decades, he stands as a leading light of Malayalam cinema, theatre and is deeply passionate about the culture of Kerala (sic).”
Actor Mammooty also extended his best wishes to Mohanlal. His X post read, “More than a colleague, a brother, and an artist who has embarked on this wonderful cinematic journey for decades. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is not just for an actor, but for a true artist who has lived and breathed cinema. So happy and proud of you, Lal. You truly deserve this crown (sic).”
The award will be presented at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23, 2025.
