The trailer for Dhanush’s upcoming film ‘Idli Kadai’, gives a glimpse into a heartfelt drama focused on family and tradition. The coming-of-age movie narrates the story of a son trying to protect his family’s legacy.

The movie follows Murugan (Dhanush), whose pursuit of a successful career in hotel management creates a rift with his father, who runs a traditional idli shack. Facing betrayal, Murugan must return home to fight to protect the family business and the legacy it represents.

The two-minute trailer opens with Dhanush’s character, Murugan, requesting his father to buy an idli grinder to ease the process of preparing batter. Murugan, who is eager for efficiency, clashes with his father, a staunch traditionalist who doubts if the taste will remain the same. The family’s idli kadai is shown to be a beloved and cherished spot among the local residents.

The promo reveals that Dhanush’s character, Murugan, has left his family’s business to pursue a career in hotel management, working under Arun Vijay’s character, Ashwin. Though Murugan’s new path boosts profits, his absence creates a rift with his father. The situation escalates when he is betrayed by Ashwin, forcing Murugan into a fight to save not just the family business, but its core values and legacy.

‘Idli Kadai’ is written, directed, and co-produced by Dhanush under Wunderbar Films, with Dawn Pictures also on board as producers. Dhanush plays the lead role, with Sathyaraj, R Parthiban, Samuthirakani, and Rajkiran in supporting roles. Nithya Menen and Shalini Pandey also play pivotal characters in the movie and GV Prakash has composed the music.

The movie is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 1, 2025 and will also be available in Telugu as Idli Kottu.

Dhanush was last seen in the Tamil-Telugu bilingual crime-drama ‘Kuberaa’.
