    ‘Sumathi Valavu’ OTT Release, When And Where To Watch Arjun Ashokan’s Horror Comedy Film

    The Malayalam cinema recently released a blockbuster film, Sumanthi Valavu on August 1, 2025, which grabbed a lot of attention from the audience because of its unique blend of horror and comedy. The film directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar included a strong cast of Arjun Ashokan, Malavika Manoj, Shivada and more. After almost one and a half months of its theatrical release, the makers have announced the date of OTT release. Read on to know when and where you can watch the film. 

    The plot of the film, Sumanthi Valavu

    Sumathi Valavu is a 2025 Malayalam horror-comedy film, which is set in the 1990s in the village of Kalleli, near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. The film is inspired by a haunted curve in Kerala, known as Sumathi Valavu, which is about the tragic death of a woman named Sumathi. According to legends, those who cross paths with it are pulled into eerie experiences.

    The film, Sumathi Valavu follows ‘Appu’ (played by Arjun Ashokan), who is a mischievous young man. He soon finds himself stuck in the strange happenings at Sumathi Valavu. As the film progresses, ‘Appu’ with his friends, ‘Mahesh’, ‘Hari’, ‘Ambadi’, ‘Deepa’ and ‘Bhama’, take the bold step to find the truth behind the horror. The film shows the spooky events ‘Appu’ and his friends face, which makes them question what is real and what is not.

    When and where to watch the film, Sumathi Valavu on OTT

    Sumathi Valavu had a successful theatrical run. Even though, the film received mixed reviews from the critics, its box office collection spoke a lot. According to a report by Koimoi, within 17 days, the film became the 10th highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2025. For viewers who missed this horror-comedy in theatres, the film is all set to release on the OTT platform, ZEE5, from September 26, 2025, onwards. The film will be available in multiple languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.

    Vishnu Sasi Shankar shared his thoughts on OTT release

    Recently, the filmmaker, Vishnu Sasi Shankar shared his thoughts on the OTT release of his blockbuster film, Sumathi Valavu. In a report by Deccan Herald, the director opened up about the film and his happiness to share his film with ZEE5. He was quoted as saying:

    “Sumathi Valavu is rooted in Kerala’s folklore but crafted for a contemporary audience. It’s not just about scares; it’s about the human emotions that linger in places tied to tragedy. Through this film, I wanted to bring out the tension between memory, myth, and mystery. ZEE5 gives us the perfect platform to reach audiences everywhere who love layered, atmospheric storytelling.”

    Arjun Ashokan is a popular actor in the Malayalam film industry, who is known for his versatile performances and strong screen presence. He is the son of the veteran actor, Harisree Ashokan.
