The Grand Theatre at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai witnessed a nostalgic musical evening with the show Forever Kishore Shaan Se, singer Shaan’s first full-length tribute to the legendary Kishore Kumar. The event was presented by Namrata Gupta Khan and Rabbani Mustafa Khan of NR Talent and Event Management – the daughter-in-law and son of the late Padma Vibhushan Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, Shaan’s guru.
Shaan’s homage to Kishore Kumar wins hearts at NMACC
Shaan began the night with his popular hits ‘Main Hoon Don’ and ‘Om Shanti Om’, before transitioning into a carefully curated set of Kishore Kumar classics. Starting with soulful melodies like ‘Tum Bin Jaun Kahan’, ‘Mere Dil Mein Aaj Kya Hai’, ‘Tera Mujhse Hai Pehle Ka Naata Koi’, and ‘Kehna Hai’, he performed a wide range of songs that reflected every facet of Kishore Kumar’s musical legacy. From romantic tracks such as ‘Dil Kya Kare’ to upbeat duets like ‘Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka’ and ‘Khullam Khulla’ (performed with singer Nihira Joshi), the nearly 70-song setlist offered something for every fan.
The concert was more than just a musical performance—it was a heartfelt tribute filled with personal anecdotes and humor. Shaan spoke about how almost every singer finds early inspiration in Kishore Kumar’s music. He brought smiles to the audience by comparing the anticipation of WhatsApp blue ticks today to the waiting in the classic song ‘Inteha Ho Gayi Intezaar Ki’. He also highlighted Kishore Kumar’s forward-thinking spirit, connecting the message of ‘Jo Soche, Jo Chaahe Woh Karke Dikhade’ to modern ideas of manifestation and positive affirmations.
A touching highlight came when Shaan’s son, Maahi, joined him on stage for a duet of ‘O Mere Dil Ke Chain’, which was met with loud applause. Another special moment featured Kishore Kumar’s son, Sumeet Kumar, as he performed classic duets like ‘Saara Zamana Haseeno Ka Deewana’ with Shaan. The night concluded with an emotional performance of ‘Chalte Chalte’, as the full-house audience swayed and sang along, visibly moved by the tribute.
Shaan also paid respects to singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away earlier that day, with a heartfelt rendition of ‘Yeh Jeevan Hai’.
Reflecting on the success of the evening, organisers Namrata Gupta Khan and Rabbani Mustafa Khan said, “We are truly grateful for the overwhelming response. Seeing the audience connect so deeply with Kishore da’s music was very special. We thank Shaan for his dedication and for bringing so much emotion to the stage.” Forever Kishore Shaan Se proved to be a fitting homage to one of India’s most beloved musical icons, leaving the audience with lasting memories of Kishore Kumar’s timeless songs.
