Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad witnessed a major drug bust as officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 12 kg of hydroponic cannabis (weed) from a passenger who had arrived from Dubai. Officials said the narcotics are valued at nearly Rs 12 crore in the international market.

The passenger, an Indian woman, was stopped at the airport and her luggage was thoroughly examined. Inside one of her bags, officials found packets of a greenish, lumpy substance that tested positive for cannabis. This bag alone contained 6 kg of hydroponic weed.

During questioning, the passenger disclosed that one of her checked-in bags had not arrived on time. The bag reached Hyderabad on September 20, and when examined, it was found to contain another 6 kg of cannabis. The passenger was placed under arrest under the NDPS Act, 1985, and further investigations are underway.

CROSS-BORDER DRUGS NETWORK BUSTED IN AMRITSAR

In a separate case, Amritsar police busted a cross-border narcotics syndicate, recovering over 5 kg of heroin and arresting one operative linked to a smuggling network run by a US-based handler in contact with Pakistan-based traffickers. According to senior Punjab Police official, Gaurav Yadav, drones were being used to push consignments of heroin and weapons across the border.
