Superstar Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundaryaa Rajinikanth shared a post on her social media to praise Rajinikanth, calling him her ‘Powerhouse Appa’ as his latest film, ‘Coolie’, continues to break records worldwide after its OTT release. The movie is currently trending in the top 10 in over 20 countries on Amazon Prime, proving the superstar’s ever-growing global appeal.
Sharing the post on her Instagram handle, she wrote, “One and only (Superstar) my powerhouse appa.” The motion poster showcased two shades of Rajinikanth from ‘Coolie’, one of which was the highly talked about de-aged version of the superstar.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film began streaming globally on September 11, reaching audiences in more than 240 countries and territories. Alongside Rajinikanth, the ensemble features a powerhouse line-up including Nagarjuna, Soubin, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Rachitha Ram and Pooja Hegde, with music composed by Anirudh.
Set against the gritty backdrop of Visakhapatnam docks, ‘Coolie’ follows Deva, a former coolie who transforms into a rebel after the mysterious death of his close friend. As he investigates, Deva unearths a dangerous smuggling syndicate, dark secrets and betrayals involving a concealed electric chair and buried truths.
Produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures with a reported budget of Rs 350–400 crore, ‘Coolie’ grossed Rs 507.75 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk, but still fell short of surpassing Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’, Kanagaraj’s own ‘Leo’ and Shankar’s ‘2.0’.
Rajinikanth will next be seen in Nelson’s ‘Jailer 2’, a sequel to the 2023 blockbuster. The superstar, who is currently shooting for the film, recently revealed that it might release after June 2026.
