October 2025 is set to be one of the most festive months of the year, as schools and colleges across the country will close for various holidays. Students will have plenty of time to celebrate with family and friends, thanks to events like Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja.
The holiday season kicks off on October 1 with Mahanavami, followed by a double holiday on October 2 for Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti. Schools and colleges nationwide will remain closed on these dates.
On October 7, educational institutions will observe a holiday for Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, honoring the great sage known for composing the Ramayana.
DIWALI WEEK BRINGS LONG BREAKS
The biggest stretch of holidays will come during Diwali week:
- October 18 – Dhanteras
- October 20 – Narak Chaturdashi (Chhoti Diwali)
- October 21 – Diwali (main festival)
- October 22 – Govardhan Puja
- October 23 – Bhai Dooj
Most schools and colleges across India will remain shut during this period, giving students an extended festive break.
The month will end with Chhath Puja on October 27–28, a major festival in Bihar, Jharkhand, and parts of eastern India. Schools in these states will remain closed for the two-day celebration dedicated to the Sun God.
From Dussehra at the start of the month to Chhath at the end, October offers one of the longest festive breaks for students in 2025. The holidays highlight India’s cultural diversity and give children a chance to enjoy family gatherings, traditions, and travel.
