The Pittsburgh Steelers community is mourning the loss of Dale Lolley, a respected journalist who passed away on September 17 at the age of 56 after a battle with cancer.

Lolley became a trusted voice for Steelers fans over a career spanning more than three decades. He wrote for The Observer-Reporter, DK Pittsburgh Sports, Steelers Digest, and the Steelers Radio Network before joining Steelers Nation Radio in 2014. His immensely popular podcast, SNR Drive with Dale & Matt, co-hosted with Matt Williamson, aired five days a week and became a go-to source for daily team updates.

In 2022, Lolley became an official contributor to Steelers.com as a writer and editor, in a prominent position leading the team’s coverage on various media outlets. In one of his initial stories for the website, he stated, “I’ve spent over half of my life covering the team. If I’m not writing about them, I’m talking about them. It’s what I do.”

Beyond journalism, Lolley was deeply involved in youth baseball in Washington County. He served as a board member and coach in the Founder’s PONY League and made lasting contributions to the Pony League World Series.

According to the Steelers, Lolley was also known for his passion for music, often quoting George Harrison lyrics or singing Pearl Jam songs. Colleagues remembered him not only as a versatile journalist but as someone who could “do it all,” from writing and editing to building an entire sports section.

Bob Labriola of Steelers.com honoured Lolley’s devotion to family, sport, and storytelling, describing him as “a diligent journalist” who brought passion to everything he did. Steelers on SI publisher Noah Strackbein also paid tribute, recalling Lolley’s advice: “When everyone else zigs, go zag. It was the best advice I’ve ever gotten in my career.”
