Get ready for a suspense-packed ride! Lionsgate is bringing a new thriller, ‘The Housemaid’, to theatres this December, and it promises a delicious mix of tension, secrets, and dark humour.

Directed by Paul Feig, better known for his comedy hits, the film stars Sydney Sweeney as Millie, a young woman desperate for a fresh start. She takes a job as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, Nina and Andrew, played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. But things quickly spiral as Millie finds herself pulled into their tangled web of hidden truths. In the trailer, Millie’s anxiety is palpable when she says, “I need this job I can’t lose it. I do not want to go back.”

The film’s first footage was unveiled at CinemaCon in April, where Feig called the project “a dream come true,” adding, “Tension and scares and comedy are so wrapped together.” Sweeney also shared her excitement, revealing how she binged Freida McFadden’s Housemaid trilogy, saying, “I could not put it down. I ended up reading all three in one week.”

Written by Rebecca Sonnenshine, the script adapts McFadden’s 2022 novel. The film is produced by Todd Lieberman (Hidden Pictures), Paul Feig and Laura Fischer (Feigco), with Sweeney, Seyfried, McFadden and Alex Young serving as executive producers. Joining the cast are Michele Morrone and Elizabeth Perkins in pivotal roles.

‘The Housemaid’ follows Millie’s descent into a world of manipulation and deception as she navigates life in Nina and Andrew’s home. Sweeney described the characters as “flawed” and “messy,” adding that the film aims to immerse audiences in their psychological unravelling.

With Feig’s signature blend of suspense and humour, the film offers a fresh take on the thriller genre. The trailer hints at dark twists and emotional stakes, with Sweeney’s Millie caught between survival and scandal.

‘The Housemaid’ hits cinemas nationwide on December 19, 2025.
