Bollywood actor Bobby Deol recently revealed his experience of being directed by Aryan Khan, Shah Rukh Khan’s son, in the upcoming web series The Ba***ds of Bollywood. Bobby shared his initial reaction when he got the call to join the project and how the journey unfolded.
EXCLUSIVE: Bobby Deol reveals how he came on board to work with Aryan Khan in The Ba***ds of Bollywood; says, “It was beyond what I had imagined in terms of what he is capable of as a director”
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Bobby Deol said, “Basically, Shah Rukh and I, we both from this industry and we’re both kids of it. I know how important it is, and he knows how important it is when your children take their first step in any kind of profession. You want to be there for them as a friend, as a father. I remember when I first got the call and Red Chillies called to say that there’s a show being produced by them, directed by Aryan Khan, and would you be interested. I immediately said, ‘I’m doing it.’ Because I know how it is; it’s not so easy. That’s how it all began.”
He added, “I had met Aryan a couple of times before, and I have seen something in him before I could even imagine him asking me to be directed by him. That itself felt so good. When I met him some time back, I could see this boy has so much fire and determination to achieve something in life. From the conversation we had at one night at some get-together. And then when I met him, he insisted on narrating the whole storyline of the web series which is about seven episodes. So I sat with him almost seven hours. I was just taken in by his conviction the way he explained, the way he went into the details of each character. It just made me realize this kid is going to make something special. Eventually, we did start work, and it was beyond what I had imagined in terms of what he is capable of as a director.”
Reflecting on the working experience, Bobby told us, “It has been a great experience for me, especially because it’s someone directing for the first time, and yet someone who is so sure as a director. Because for a director, you have to experience a lot of things just like an actor. You need to live through so much to understand the emotions of every age group. And the way he has understood the emotions of every character in the film be it Asmaan’s father or others the way he and his whole team have written it, being part of it has been wonderful.”
Bobby also spoke about Aryan’s approach on set, noting, “But yes, he was a tough taskmaster. He really made us push to bring the best out of ourselves. It wasn’t about him being confused he just knew exactly what he wanted from each of us. Whatever he had written, he wanted it to come across as it was, and sometimes that meant doing many takes. I think the whole experience was a learning process for all of us. Because we as an actor, we always somewhere get stuck with the thought that we know it. Then when someone pushes you then you realize that I never saw that I was capable of something more than that. I think that was a kind of experience working with him.”
With Bobby Deol’s glowing remarks, it’s clear that Aryan Khan’s directorial debut is set to make a mark, promising both strong performances and a fresh perspective in the series.
