Filmmaker Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai has opened up about why Farhan Akhtar was his first choice to play the iconic role of Major Shaitan Singh in the upcoming war epic 120 Bahadur. The film, set against the harsh backdrop of the 1962 India-China War, recounts the legendary Battle of Rezang La, where 120 soldiers of the 13 Kumaon Regiment fought with unmatched bravery despite overwhelming odds.

Sharing his admiration for the actor, Razneesh revealed, “For me, it was his sincerity. Whether it’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag or the other roles he has taken on, there is an honesty he brings to every performance that I’ve always admired. When he said yes, I was absolutely delighted.”
According to the director, this sense of sincerity was crucial for portraying Major Shaitan Singh, a man remembered for his integrity, courage, and leadership. Though Razneesh and Farhan had previously collaborated on commercials, the filmmaker emphasized that this project was “on an entirely different scale.”
Razneesh also lauded Farhan’s humility, highlighting how the actor’s background as a filmmaker never overshadowed his work as an actor. “Being a filmmaker himself, Farhan understands what it takes to mount a story of this nature. Yet, not once did he wear his director’s hat on set. If he had a suggestion, he would always come with, ‘Razy, if I may…’—that kind of humility and respect is rare.”
The director further praised Farhan’s preparation and dedication. “The way he prepares for a role, the hard work he puts in—it’s remarkable. I see a lot of myself in him, because I too am a perfectionist. That’s why we got along so well, and shooting this film with him was an absolute joy.”
At the heart of the film lies a powerful line that defines the spirit of Rezang La: “Hum Peechhe Nahin Hatenge.”
120 Bahadur is directed by Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar (Excel Entertainment), and Amit Chandrra (Trigger Happy Studios). An Excel Entertainment production, the film is set to release in cinemas worldwide on November 21, 2025.
