Red carpet dress codes are “Too Much” for Megan Stalter.
The comedian, 34, arrived at the 2025 Emmy Awards in an unexpectedly casual outfit: a simple white Hanes T-shirt, Levi’s blue jeans, a black leather belt, pointed-toe flats, and a handbag with the words “Cease Fire!” written across the front in bold letters.
While her fellow nominees shimmered in custom gowns and borrowed diamonds on TV’s biggest night, Stalter was busy making the case for denim democracy.
“I think people need to bring back jeans on the red carpet!” Stalter told a Variety reporter with characteristic conviction, adjusting her sleek black sunglasses.

When the reporter questioned whether jeans ever really belonged on red carpets to begin with, Stalter didn’t miss a beat.
“They were in the ’90s! I’m seeing Cameron Diaz with jeans, c’mon.”
The actress, who stars as Kayla in HBO Max’s “Hacks,” doubled down on her approach by flashing her message bag. “You need to speak up for what’s important to you,” she said.
“Hacks” is nominated in the category of outstanding comedy at tonight’s awards.
“You’re allowed to do what you want,” she added, making clear that her ensemble was as much about independence as it was about comfort.
She had a point about the look’s legacy: the ’90s and early aughts saw Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake step out in their now-iconic head-to-toe denim getups at the 2001 American Music Awards, Gwyneth Paltrow don classic Levi’s on the red carpet, and Cameron Diaz sport laid-back low-rise jeans at splashy movie premieres.
Stalter, it seems, is betting on a revival.
Whether the Emmys are ready for a casual revolution remains to be seen. But judging by Stalter’s unbothered energy and commitment to the bit, she’s not backing down anytime soon.
