This NFL season, Jevonte’s team might have changed, however, his father, Jermaine Williams’ support for him remains unbreakable. Javonte Williams and his father call each other ‘Pookie’
Jermaine Williams was known around their town in North Carolina as ‘Pookie’. When he married his high-school sweetheart, Shekemia and the two welcomed their baby boy, Javonte on April 25, 2000, the nickname was carried forward. Now, Jermaine was called ‘Big Pookie’, while his son, Javonte was called ‘Little Pookie’. Throughout the years, as Javonte grew up, the ‘little’ tag was removed, and the father and son shared the nickname, which was first given by Jermaine’s great-grandmother. In the official website of his former team, Denver Broncos, Javonte shared:
“Ever since, it’s stuck — but as I got bigger, the ‘Little’ part fell off. They just started calling me ‘Pookie.’ Now they call him ‘Big Pookie,’ or ‘B.P’.”

Jermaine recalled that the budding football player was just 11 years old when he first stated his dream of playing in the NFL. Jermaine and Shekemia did everything they could to support their son. Jevonte’s father is a barber and runs a bail bonds company. However, he also did every job he could to support the family, revealed Jevonte’s high school coach, Joey Price. Jermaine did not cut out on any expenses when it came to supporting his son. Even would even cook steaks four to five times a week when Javonte needed to bulk up. The NFL star’s high school coach shared:
“His mom and dad, they’re rocks… His dad did every job he could do to support his family. His dad’s a barber and had to run a bail bonds company. His dad was just always around. His dad would go from here to the end of the world for his son. He never missed his games. I don’t care where it’s at. They’ll do whatever.”
Javonte Williams’ father has sleepless nights before his NFL games
Jermaine Williams used to be a linebacker when he played football during his high-school days. However, now that he is a father to an NFL star, he gets more anxious about Jevonte’s games than he used to be about his own. When Javonte used to play for the Broncos, Jermaine had revealed that he would lose sleep at night before a Broncos game. As Javonte Williams is now the Dallas Cowboys running back, it is safe to assume that his father’s anxiousness before his game has remained the same. Jermaine had shared:
“The night before the game, I don’t sleep. The day of the game, I’m up 5 o’clock in the morning, as if I’m playing. And my wife is like, ‘Why don’t you sleep?’I get butterflies like I’ve got a game that day.”
Javonte Williams and his dad’s ritual on his game days
The father and son have a ritual which they have followed without fail on every game day. Since Jevonate was in high school, his father texts him a YouTube link. The link opens to the NFL on Fox theme. And every time he gets the text, Javonte blasts the them song on his speakers and gets into the mood of a player on the field. Talking about the love he has for his dad, Javonte said:
“He’s just somebody that’s always been there for me, no matter what it is. I can call him any time I wanted to; he’s going to answer the phone and pick up. He’s always going to keep it real with me. Doesn’t matter whether it’s going to hurt my feelings or not, he’s going to tell me the truth. And that’s why I love him so much.”
