United States President Donald Trump on Saturday hailed Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director Kash Patel after the capture of a suspect, Tyler Robinson, in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
While speaking to Fox News, Trump heaped praise on the FBI director for the remarkable speed at which the bureau identified and nabbed Charlie Kirk’s shooter. Trump said, “I am very proud of the FBI. Kash—and everyone else—they have done a great job.”
Trump’s statement came after Patel faced criticism over his handling of the Charlie Kirk shooter investigation and the inaccurate announcement he made regarding the arrest of the suspect, before Tyler Robinson was eventually arrested.

FBI Director Kash Patel wrongly announced an arrest in the fatal shooting. The hasty announcement sparked confusion and drew sharp criticism from current and former law enforcement figures. “At the outset of an investigation, much of the initial intelligence is typically wrong or slightly off. That’s why any FBI director has never done what Patel did. The bureau doesn’t run investigations on social media,” said retired FBI agent Dan Brunner.
However, the White House publicly defended Patel. “Kash is leading the manhunt to catch the killer of our friend, and everyone is supporting him—including the President of the United States,” asserted the White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
22-year-old Tyler Robinson, a Utah resident, was nabbed nearly 33 hours after Kirk was shot dead at Utah Valley University in Orem, ending a high-intensity manhunt that gripped the United States. Robinson is the son of a former sheriff department staffer, who turned his son in to law enforcement authorities after he confessed to the crime.
Robinson was a student at Utah State University on a scholarship but attended for only one semester in 2021, insiders confirmed to the Daily Mail.
