Is Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor’s Abir Gulaal set to release in India soon?
Abir Gulaal was set for an Indian release on September 26, 2025. An earlier report by Bollywood Hungama stated the production banner behind the movie, Indian Stories Limited (UK), was exploring the idea of an Indian release of the movie in the next week. However, the official account of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) stated that the claims made were all fake. The tweet claimed that no clearance had been given for the movie. It read:
“It is being claimed by several media outlets that the film “Aabeer Gulaal” starring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor will release in Indian cinemas on September 26, 2025. #PIBFactCheck This claim is fake. No such clearance has been granted for this film.”
An insider close to the movie had earlier told the publication that Indian Stories Limited was confident of the product and felt that the film was a simple and sweet love story. It has the potential to attract the audience everywhere, including India. Moreover, no other film was scheduled for a release on September 26, 2025, and so the movie will enjoy a solo release in India. The claims made have been strictly dismissed by the PIB, which has revealed that the information was entirely fake.
Abir Gulaal’s songs have been removed
After the Pahalgam terror attack, many calls were made to stop the release of Abir Gulaal in India. On the other hand, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) also ordered a ban on Lollywood artists. They sought cooperation from all Lollywood singers, artists, and technicians who had worked in the Indian movie and entertainment industry. Even the songs from the movie were removed from Saregama’s YouTube channel, despite having the official music label rights.

Indian Stories Production has produced Abir Gulaal with A Richer Lens and Aarjay Pictures. The producers of the movie are Vivek B Agrawal, Avantika Hari and Rakesh Sippy, while the movie was shot in London. Abir Gulaal’s cast, apart from Vaani and Fawad, also includes Lisa Haydon, Riddhi Dogra, Farida Jalal, Soni Razdan and Parmeet Sethi in important roles.
Fawad Khan’s movie is not being accepted in India
Fans of Fawad have been eagerly awaiting his comeback, but Abir Gulaal is not being welcomed in India. It was in the early 2025 when Fawad condemned the deadly Pahalgam te**or attack but then slammed India’s Operation Sindoor. He was trolled brutally on social media, and it raised concerns related to the release of the movie in India, getting a backlash. Fawad is also known for his work in Kapoor & Sons and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, while Vaani is known for her roles in Befikre and War.
