Actor Abhishek Bachchan has secured relief from the Delhi High Court in a petition seeking protection of his personal rights, following a similar order granted to his wife, Aishwarya Rai, earlier this week.

Justice Tejas Karia of the Delhi High Court noted in his order that Abhishek Bachchan’s plea presented “prima facie strong facts” justifying one-sided relief to maintain the balance of convenience.

In his petition, Bachchan challenged the unauthorised use of his voice, image, photographs, name, or likeness by media outlets, websites, or other platforms for commercial or personal purposes. He sought immediate injunctions against such usage, including merchandise, advertisements, or artificial intelligence-generated content exploiting his persona without consent.

During the hearing, Justice Karia noted that the court could direct Google to take down links containing content that violates Abhishek Bachchan’s personality rights, if provided with a list of the exact URLs.

“We can ask Google to take down. You have to give a URL specific to each other. If you can identify the platform, it can be easily done. YouTube, Amazon, and Flipkart are mentioned in the petition. This order cannot be granted. It has to be divided defendant-wise. We cannot pass an order this way,” Justice Karia said.

The court’s order comes just two days after it granted similar relief to Aishwarya Rai. Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court said it would issue injunctions to safeguard Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s personality rights after she reported her images being manipulated and misused online.

Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi, appearing for Aishwarya Rai, informed the court that multiple online entities were using her likeness without permission, violating her personality rights.

Previously, both Amitabh Bachchan and his granddaughter, Aaradhya, had also received protection from the Delhi High Court under comparable petitions.
