A dispute over a dog’s name in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, turned violent on Thursday night. The conflict arose when a neighbour named his pet dog ‘Sharma,’ angering another family with the same surname, which eventually led to a police complaint.

According to the complaint, Bhupendra Singh’s decision to name his dog ‘Sharma’ upset his neighbours, Virendra Sharma and his wife Kiran. Virendra alleged that Bhupendra “deliberately called the dog ‘Sharma ji’ and made objectionable comments in front of friends.”

“When Kiran Sharma objected, the matter escalated into verbal abuse and physical assault,” Virendra said. He claimed that Bhupendra and two of his associates attacked them, leaving them injured.

Following the incident, the couple filed a complaint at Rajendra Nagar police station. “Based on the report, the police have registered a case against Bhupendra Singh and his two associates,” officials said.

The police have begun investigating the matter and are questioning all parties involved, keeping in mind the sensitive nature of the dispute.
