Hyderabad student Mohammed Zaid dies after succumbing to injuries in US accident

Hyderabad student Mohammed Zaid, 20, died in Connecticut after a road accident. MBT leader Amjed Ullah Khan says his family seeks Indian government help to bring home the mortal remains.

A 20-year-old student from Hyderabad, Mohammed Zaid, who was pursuing graduation at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, USA, succumbed to injuries after a road accident earlier this month.

“A student from Hyderabad who reportedly met with a road accident in Connecticut, USA, recently succumbed to his injuries,” said Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) leader Amjed Ullah Khan, who has been coordinating with the victim’s family.

The accident occurred on September 7 when Zaid left his residence to buy groceries and was allegedly struck by a speeding car. He was rushed to St. Vincent’s Medical Centre, Hartford Healthcare, where he had been fighting for his life before passing away.

Khan, who has been in contact with Zaid’s family, said the victim’s parents attempted to travel to the US but were unable to do so “due to unavoidable circumstances.” They have since requested Union Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to help bring their son’s mortal remains back to Hyderabad for the final rites.

In his posts on X, Khan criticised the lack of response from Indian diplomatic missions. “Very sad to note that there was no response from the Embassy of India in Washington DC, Consulate General of India in New York, USA Embassy in New Delhi, and US Consulate in Hyderabad post accident of Mohammed Zaid in Connecticut,” he wrote.

He also pointed out that neither Indian officials in Washington nor New York had visited the hospital or reached out to the family. “No official of the Embassy of India in Washington DC nor the Consulate General of India in New York visited the hospital to see the injured Mohammed Zaid nor they spoke to his parents,” Khan said.

The family continues to wait for confirmation on when Zaid’s mortal remains will be repatriated to Hyderabad.
