USIBC President Atul Keshap stressed the importance of Modi-Trump dialogue amid trade disputes and global instability, calling India a growing global leader and urging stronger cooperation to balance tariffs with peace and prosperity.

Dialogue between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump is critical for resolving trade tensions and addressing global instability, US-India Business Council (USIBC) President Atul Keshap has said.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Keshap stressed the need for both governments to remain engaged despite frictions. “It’s always better when we talk. USIBC, my organisation, has issued some very strong statements urging that both governments not only talk but that they work to preserve and expand a really excellent relationship that is good for the people of both countries, the businesses and the prosperity of both countries,” he said.

Keshap warned of turbulent times, pointing to Russia’s drone incursions into Poland as a potential flashpoint in Europe. “These are very dangerous times and this is where the United States and India need to work together,” he added.

He also emphasised India’s influence on global affairs. “India has a lot of influence on Russia. If we can have a negotiation that encompasses the trade agreement, but also helps each of us achieve greater peace and stability in the world, that will be very good and will reflect India’s increasing leadership on the global stage.”

The comments came as Modi and Trump publicly reaffirmed their partnership. Modi described the US as a “natural partner” in a post on X, while Trump reposted the message on Truth Social, announcing that both nations are “continuing negotiations to address trade barriers.”

Trump, who recently called India-US ties “very special,” said he looked forward to speaking with Modi soon. Modi echoed optimism, saying talks would “pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the partnership.”

With tariffs straining relations, Keshap said sustained dialogue offers the best path to balance economic friction with strategic cooperation at a time of global uncertainty.
