Bigg Boss 19, known for its drama and controversies, has once again lived up to its reputation. Among this season’s contestants is actress-turned-lawyer Kunickaa Sadanand, who rose to fame in the 1990s for playing vamp roles in Bollywood. While her stint in the Bigg Boss house is already drawing mixed reactions, an old interview clip of hers has now resurfaced online, sparking heated discussions.

The viral video is from Kunickaa’s conversation with Siddharth Kannan, recorded months before the launch of Bigg Boss 19. In the interview, Kunickaa made a controversial statement about rape in the film industry. She was heard saying, “Humari industry main na, main aisa maanti hoon, ki rape nahi hota hai. Kahi na kahi ladki ki taraf se bhi ek ishara hota hai. I’ve never heard of anybody being raped who has been clear and straightforward. I’ve always been clear and straightforward. Boss, mujhe kisi bhi keemat pe heroine nahi banna hai.”
The remarks, which many netizens have described as problematic and insensitive, have not only gone viral but also attracted a strong response from singer Jaan Kumar Sanu. For the unversed, Kunickaa was once in a six-year-long relationship with his father, legendary playback singer Kumar Sanu, while the latter was married to Rita Bhattacharya.
Reacting in the comments section of a post carrying the clip, Jaan wrote, “She did this herself her whole life. With married men and whoever she could get hands on. Mooh kholna nahi hai zyada. Bohot dhotiya khul jaayenge phir.” His sharp remarks have only added fuel to the ongoing debate.
Several social media users, too, expressed disappointment at Kunickaa’s words, calling them regressive and insensitive. While some questioned how someone who speaks of women empowerment could make such statements, others pointed out the irony of her being an educated lawyer yet holding such views.
