Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran recently spoke about his love for India and Indian films and music. He compared watching ‘Om Shanti Om’ to introducing someone to ‘Star Wars’.

Ed recently shared a video on his YouTube channel, while having an interaction with New Zealnad-based DJ, Zane Lowe. While speaking about his love for Shah Rukh Khan and Hindi film music, he said, “It’s a wealth of discovery of movies, and someone going like, ‘Oh, have you seen this movie?’ Have you seen ‘Om Shanti Om’? It’s like a really big Shah Rukh Khan movie, and it has amazing songs and dances in it.”

The singer further said, “This is a weird analogy, but it is almost like introducing Star Wars to someone for the first time, and they just go like, ‘What the f** is this?’ There are superstars in the same country singing in different languages.”

He also recalled his India tour and spoke about exploring the cultural diversity across the country. “What was interesting about doing the whole India tour was that the only reason we were there was to shoot the music video. We thought that we needed to go all over the country and shoot a little bit everywhere,” Ed went on.

“I love that every hundred miles, the culture, language, food, fashion, rhythms, and all of it changed. Everywhere we went something was more interesting. There are also talents there that have existed for decades that you would not know about,” he added.

‘Om Shanti Om’, directed by Farah Khan, narrates the story of reincarnation, where a junior artist takes rebirth as a superstar. He later seeks vengeance against the man who killed the woman he loved in previous birth.

The film marked the debut of actor Deepika Padukone opposite Shah Rukh, who played the lead role. Actors Shreyas Talpade, Arjun Rampal, Kirron Kher and others also played key roles in the movie.

Ed had recently met Shah Rukh during his India visit and the latter also featured in his music video ‘Sapphire’. The song was a collaboration between the English musician and Indian playback singer Arijit Singh.

A few months ago, the ‘Sapphire’ singer admitted that he became a fan of Arijit after listening to ‘Tum Hi Ho’, while watching ‘Aashiqui 2’.
