The fresh filings in Sunjay Kapur’s inheritance dispute have sparked several questions, including whether Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay were actually closer than what the world was led to believe. The speculations follow a series of WhatsApp chats and documents annexed to the suit filed by Karisma’s children in the Delhi High Court. According to the material submitted to the court, Sunjay was assisting his ex-wife, Karisma, and their two children in obtaining Portuguese citizenship.
Sunjay Kapur was helping Karisma Kapoor get Portuguese citizenship
According to the material provided to the court, Sunjay was assisting his ex-wife, Karisma Kapoor, and their children in what appears to be securing overseas nationality for the family. The chats have cited that Sunjay told Karisma that she would have to give up her Indian citizenship to obtain a Portuguese passport. For the unversed, this was because India does not permit dual citizenship. The revelation has led everyone to wonder whether Sunjay and Karisma were actually closer than what was portrayed to the world. However, things will only become clearer in the next court session.
Sunjay Kapur’s will was signed ‘in haste’?
The plaintiffs’ lawyer, Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, submitted some surprising documents to the court. He revealed that the will had not been disclosed earlier. He added that it was not only unregistered, but was read ‘in haste’ at the Taj Hotel. He also highlighted what he called ‘suspicious circumstances’, pointing out that the executor reportedly learned of the will only a day prior and that its disclosure originated from a family employee.
On the other hand, Priya Kapur’s lawyer, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, claimed that the suit is not maintainable. He said the plaintiffs are already beneficiaries under the trust and had received assets worth Rs. 1,900 crore just days before the case was filed. He even took a fiery jab at Karisma Kapoor, stating that she had been ‘nowhere to be seen for the past 15 years’. He also urged the court to be sympathetic to Priya, who stated:
“It’s not as if these people are left on the streets. I am a widow with a six-year-old child.”

On the other hand, Sunjay Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, also expressed her objections against the will through Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar. She claimed that she was never made aware of such a will. She was quoted as saying:
“There’s something unholy going on. I am 80 years old and concerned about my grandchildren. A trust set up by me has nothing for me? Despite repeated mails, I never received a copy of the will.”
What will happen next in Sunjay Kapur’s inheritance dispute?

The Bench of Justice Jyoti Singh directed that written statements from both parties be filed within two weeks. The statement revealed that the court will reconvene within a week after the submission is made. The statement could be read as:
