A few months after her engagement with Abhishek Bachchan was broken, it was announced that Karisma Kapoor was engaged to industrialist Sunjay Kapur. Before their wedding, in an interview with Subhash K. Jha, Karisma stated that her upcoming wedding with Sunjay was ‘almost like love was arranged into a marriage’. The actress revealed that her mother, Babit and Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, were old friends and hence she grew up with the businessman and her sisters. The actress was quoted as saying:
“Interestingly, my mom became friends with his mom, who’s Raunaq Singh’s daughter, when she was 18. In fact my mom (Babita) in her heydays, shot one of her movies Haseena Maan Jaayegi in my mother-in-law-to-be’s house. They’ve remained friends since then. All of us kids from both the homes grew up together. His sisters are very close to me. We were in school together. So it was almost like love was arranged into a marriage.”
Though the marriage was arranged between the two, in the same interview, Karisma stated that all her instincts told her that Sunjay was the right person for her. She also said that she was stepping into married life at the right time, after being a workaholic since she was 16 years old. Talking about her gut feeling, Karisma shared:
“Career or personal life, I’ve always gone by my gut feeling. When I did Sunil Darshan’s Jaanwar everyone wanted to know what I had to do in the film. I did it nonetheless and it really benefited me. I guess I do have an instinctive feeling for right and wrong. And all my instincts tell me Sanjay is the right person for me.”
