Queen Letizia tied her look together — literally — with lace-up espadrilles on Wednesday for the“Women, Sport and Society” colloquium in Torrelodones, Madrid.
The style featured a closed almond-toe upper in smooth white material, anchored by ribbon ties that wrapped at the ankle. Jute wedge soles provided a modest lift, keeping the silhouette classic and in line with her warm-weather footwear staples.

Espadrilles have had a recurring role in Letizia’s summer wardrobe. In July, she wore a beige wedge style with a neutral Mango midi dress while receiving audiences in Madrid. Just two months earlier, she paired another espadrille silhouette with a colorful floral gown, solidifying the rope-soled design as one of her go-to seasonal options.

The appearance builds on a season of shifting but simple silhouettes. In August, she stepped out at the Atlántida Film Festival in Palma de Mallorca with her daughters, all three wearing toe-ring sandals that tapped into one of this year’s most prominent (and sometimes controversial) sandal trends. June brought a shift to slingback mary janes, with Sézane’s Paula Babies style giving her business casual attire a polished finish.
Picón, a Spanish label centered on espadrilles, has appeared regularly in Letizia’s summer rotation. Known for its affordable lace-up wedge silhouettes, the brand’s designs slot easily into the royal’s love of subtle lift and comfort. The label’s connection to regional craft has also made it a natural fit for Letizia, who often champions Spanish designers ranging from household names like Carolina Herrera to independent local brands.
She rounded out the ensemble with Antik Batik’s navy Dalli gown, trimmed with white embroidery across its tiered skirt, and carried Carolina Herrera’s Initials Insignia bag in leather.
The event at Casa de la Cultura Paco de Lucía was tied to the second edition of the Challenge 40 Basket solidarity tournament, which focuses on prevention of female genital mutilation and other abuses against women. Launched in 2024, the program uses basketball as a platform for education and community awareness, with this year’s edition expanding its reach in schools and local organizations.
