Nasa is giving the public a chance to tag along, at least in spirit, on its next big leap into deep space. Ahead of the Artemis II mission, set to launch in early 2026, people around the world can fly to the Moon as well.

You can now submit your names to fly around the Moon aboard the Orion spacecraft as part of the ambitious Artemis Mission.

The initiative is part of Nasa’s tradition of including the public in its landmark missions, offering citizens everywhere a symbolic seat on journey back to the lunar neighbourhood. Submissions are currently open, and each name will be saved onto a digital memory card that will be stowed inside Orion during the mission.

Artemis II will mark a historic milestone: the first crewed mission of Nasa’s Artemis campaign. Four astronauts — Nasa’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) — will be the first humans to ride the powerful Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, testing Orion’s advanced life support systems on a flight around the Moon and back.

The journey will push human spaceflight farther than it has gone in over half a century.

Though the astronauts will stay aboard Orion without landing on the lunar surface, Artemis II is a crucial stepping stone toward Nasa’s long-term plans. The mission will demonstrate the capabilities needed for Artemis III, which aims to land astronauts near the lunar south pole later this decade.

These efforts will ultimately prepare crews for even greater challenges, such as future astronaut missions to Mars.

By flying their names on Orion, participants can become part of this chapter in space exploration history. “Space is for everyone. By signing up, you’re symbolically joining the crew on humanity’s return to the Moon,” Nasa said in a statement.

Names will remain preserved as a digital record of international participation in Artemis, echoing Nasa’s earlier public-engagement projects, such as flying names on Mars rovers and probes that ventured into interstellar space.
