Ahead of the Emmy Awards on Sept. 14, Gwendoline Christie attended the Creative Arts Emmys this past weekend in Los Angeles. Christie, who is nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for “Severance,” worked with stylist Katie Grand on a custom Miu Miu look for the occasion.
“I was really incredibly honored to be nominated for an Emmy for my work in ‘Severance.’ It’s a show that’s incredibly close to my heart and I really do love the work on it,” Christie said over the phone from L.A. “I think it’s exceptional and so strikingly original and so I was incredibly privileged to be asked to be a part of this. There’s something truly miraculous about being invited to be a part of one of your favorite TV shows of all time. So it was obviously a very special moment for me and ‘Severance,’ to the show that has shown me a lot of love. And consequently it made sense to go back to the source of love in my life with things like my relationship with Miu Miu and also with the stylist supreme, Katie Grand.”

Christie, who also stars in Netflix’s “Wednesday,” prepped for the big day with a facial by Joanna Vargas, and had hair done by Adir Abergel, nails by Alex Jachno and makeup by Kate Lee. When it came to the clothing, she and Grand took inspiration from the kinds of roles Christie has been playing recently.
“Katie has really encouraged me to embrace my body shape and to be more forthcoming with the delineation of my body in a way that I wouldn’t always do in the public realm,” Christie said. “And we discussed feeling some sensuality about this moment and my personal softness and vulnerability of being in that moment, because it comes with a lot of vulnerability and also it’s a real triumph for any actor to be recognized in this way. For me personally, it is an enormous achievement. So I wanted to capture that by embracing my own feelings of blooming in that moment and of talking in the light, being given a moment to shine.”

The two collected references, with Christie saying she wanted to feel “cocooned, sort of like a blooming rose” in the final look.
“What I love about Miu Miu is it’s so cinematic and that look seemed to be something from another era. It had a kind of ’50s mood about it but it also had a sort of 1920s film aspect to it. It also felt very Italian.”
Grand lent Christie her own belt to tie it all together, and the end result had Christie looking “possibly the most fantastic I’ve ever felt.”
