Ben Affleck and Matt Damon make an unexpected discovery in the teaser trailer for the Netflix action thriller The Rip.
Writer-director Joe Carnahan‘s crime feature launches on the streamer Jan. 16, 2026. Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins and Kyle Chandler round out the cast.
Inspired by true events, The Rip centers on a team of Miami police officers who stumble upon millions in cash during a raid of a stash house. Alliances are tested as the authorities learn of the staggering amount of money that was discovered.
“You should just take whatever money you want and walk away before this goes really bad for all of us,” Calle warns in the trailer.

Later in the footage, Damon asks about the seized money, “Do you think I’m gonna jack this rip?” This leads Affleck to respond, “I don’t trust you right now, and that’s a fucking problem.”
Carnahan (Shadow Force) helmed the movie from his own script, with Michael McGrale credited for his work on the story. Producers include Affleck, Damon, Dani Bernfeld and Luciana Damon. The project marks the first collaboration between Netflix and Artists Equity, the production company that Affleck and Matt Damon co-founded.
“Our goal is always to just make movies that we think we’ll like, which is really the same calculus we use in our own careers as actors,” Damon told GQ about what appealed to himself and Affleck in producing The Rip. “It kind of drives our creative team crazy, because they’re like, ‘What are we looking for?’ And we always just go, A good movie.”
