The Labubu mania has reached the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet.
Marko Monroe, who became known as the “labubu designer” on social media, was one of the first guests to arrive at the award show ceremony on Sunday, debuting what he called a “Moonbubu.” The name is a reference to the classic Moonman statuette trophy given during the music television network’s annual show since 1984. Inspired by the original Moonman, Monroe’s Labubu is seen wearing a silver astronaut outfit with a space helmet included.

“Who is going to take home the Moonbubu tonight?” the designer asked on his social media, where he shared close-up pictures of his creations.
Monroe, one of the creatives at the House of Avalon, gained recognition for designing custom outfits for Labubus inspired by celebrities and pop culture moments. He created pieces for Marc Jacobs, Lady Gaga and Lisa, and notably went viral with his “Wednesday” collection of Labubu outfits in August.

Inspired by Nordic folklore and the imagination of artist Kasing Lung, Labubu first appeared in 2015 as a character in “The Monsters” storybook. Four years later, the mischievous elf with pointy ears and a toothy grin made its leap to collectible toy thanks to China’s Pop Mart. In 2025, Labubu became one of the must-have fashion accessories, with celebrities such as Cher, Dua Lipa, and Rihanna using the doll as an accessory on and off the red carpet. More recently, Madonna celebrated her 67th birthday with a Labubu-inspired cake.
“Labubu has become more than just a collectible; it’s a bold statement of individual style,” Emily Brough, Pop Mart’s head of IP licensing, the Americas, previously told WWD via email.
