Madharaasi, the psychological action thriller featuring Sivakarthikeyan and Vidyut Jammwal at loggerheads, has already garnered a lot of attention. In the movie, Sivakarthikeyan played the role of ‘Raghu Ram’, who is the protagonist; Vidyut portrayed ‘Virat’, the antagonist; and Rukmini Vasanth played the role of Raghu’s love interest, ‘Malathy’. Sivakarthikeyan’s whopping paycheck for Madharaasi
Over the years, Sivakarthikeyan has established himself both as a romantic and an action hero. In 2021, the action comedy, Doctor, starring Sivakarthikeyan, became the highest-grossing film of his career. Madharaasi marked a glorifying return to big screens for Sivakarthikeyan after his last project, Amaran, co-starring Sai Pallavi. According to Filmibeat, the actor reportedly earned Rs. 30 crore for his role, ‘Major Mukund Varadharajan’ in Amaran.
According to a report by Times Now, Sivakarthikeyan has increased his salary after the immense success of Amaran. For the uninitiated, the 120 crore budget film, Amaran, earned Rs. 219.91 crore at the box office in India and Rs. 341.49 crore worldwide. For the recently released film, Madharaasi, the Amaran actor reportedly earned Rs. 40 crore for playing the lead role.
Madharaasi‘s director, A.R. Murugadoss, earned crores by appearing in a cameo
A.R. Murugadoss, the filmmaker of Madharaasi, is well known for his movies like Ghajini, Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty, Sikandar, Sarkar, and Darbar, among others. In the psychological action thriller, the captain of the ship appears in a cameo. He reportedly earned a massive salary of Rs. 30 crore. During the audio launch event of Madharaasi, he shared how deeply he had become involved in the project. He was quoted as saying:
“I have acted in small cameo roles in all three Vijay films that I have directed before. I felt a similar special feeling when I worked with Sivakarthikeyan. That is why I appeared in a scene in ‘Madharaasi’ too. Many people are talking about the scene where Sivakarthikeyan is given a gun. In fact, we planned that scene while we were still in the production of the film. Now it’s so hyped. You’ll see the film and you’ll realise how strong he’s holding that gun.”
How much were the other cast members paid for Madharaasi?
Vidyut Jammwal, who played the villainous character, ‘Virat’, reportedly received an amount of Rs. 4 crore. It is the second film of A.R. Murugadoss, in which Vidyut played the role of an antagonist. In 2012, Vidyut played the role of a villain, in the film, Thuppakki, co-starring Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal. Rukmini Vasanth, who played the on-screen love interest of Sivakarthikeyan, reportedly earned Rs. 3 crore. Malayalam actor, Biju Menon, also earned the same amount of Rs. 3 crore like Rukmini.
