Singer Shaan has expressed strong disapproval of an AI-generated version of the popular song Saiyaara that mimicked the legendary voice of Kishore Kumar. He called the use of artificial intelligence to recreate the voices of veteran singers “unfair” and urged listeners to appreciate original music instead of supporting AI-generated renditions.

In a recent interview, Shaan said that while technology could be helpful in some areas, using it to artificially reproduce iconic voices without consent or context was both insensitive and disrespectful.
“It’s unfair to recreate voices of artists who are no longer here to approve it,” he said to ANI. “These voices came from years of experience and emotion something AI cannot replicate.”

The AI-generated Saiyaara version, which quickly gained popularity online, featured Kishore Kumar’s recreated voice. Though many praised the novelty, Shaan felt the emotional depth and artistic expression of the original performance were lost in translation.
He also criticized the audience trend of comparing AI-generated versions to the originals, calling such comparisons misplaced. “It’s not just about the voice, it’s about the sensibility, the journey, and the human connection,” Shaan added.
He encouraged fans to revisit the original tracks recorded by artists like Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, and others, rather than engaging with algorithm-driven recreations that lacked authenticity.
Shaan’s reaction added an important voice to the growing debate around artificial intelligence in the music industry. As technology continues to reshape how music is created and consumed, artists like Shaan reminded listeners of the importance of preserving authenticity—and honouring the irreplaceable contributions of musical legends.
