Malcolm-Jamal Warner‘s final performance will be seen next month in an episode of Fox’s Murder in a Small Town, which he filmed earlier this year before his tragic passing on July 20.

As reported by People, the Canadian crime drama’s second season is set to premiere at 8 pm ET on September 23. Warner will appear in a guest role in the third episode, titled “Mother Love,” which is scheduled to air on October 7. It marks the actor’s last performance filmed before he died.

The Cosby Show alum died in an accidental drowning while on a family vacation in Costa Rica on July 20. He was 54 years old.

In his upcoming episode of Murder in a Small Town, Warner plays Richard Buscombe, a protective father who becomes suspected of murdering his ex-wife when she’s killed just after returning to town. Still heartbroken years after the split, Richard wears his anger and pain on his sleeve, but his only goal in life is to keep his daughter safe.

Showrunner and executive producer Ian Weir spoke to People about Warner’s final role, saying, “His performance — as a struggling single dad, fiercely protective of his daughter — just glows with integrity. He found levels that I hadn’t imagined.”

He continued, “We were really delighted when Malcolm agreed to join us as a guest star — and completely thrilled by the experience of working with him. He was such a leader and a gentleman. It’s such a terrible, tragic loss.”

Fans took to social media to react to Warner’s upcoming part in Murder In A Small Town, with one Instagram user writing, “He had sooo much left in him!”

“He was born to be a great actor!” added another.

Warner was perhaps best known for his Emmy-nominated performance as Theo Huxtable in The Cosby Show, which ran from 1984 to 1992. The actor went on to appear on the series’ spinoff, A Different World, and shows such as Here and Now, The Magic School Bus, Malcolm & Eddie, The Resident, 9-1-1, and Community.
