America’s Got Talent left many viewers with jaws on the floor on Wednesday night (September 3) after some unexpected results of America’s voting.
Fans had been voting for which three acts they wanted to see advance in the competition following Tuesday’s (September 2) live show performances. The ten acts vying for votes were singer Jessica Sanchez, juggling act the Messoudi Brothers, crossbow shooter Anna Saranina, singer Austin Brown, vocal group Benn Family Band, freestyle rapper Chris Turner, band Girish & the Chronicles, aerial duo Jacqueline & Wagner, dancer Maceo Harrison, and A.I. magician Mastermind.
The eleventh act, Micah Palace, had already earned his spot in the final after Simon Cowell hit his Live Golden Buzzer on Tuesday’s show. He joins Mel B‘s Golden Buzzer, rapper Mama Duke, and Sofia Vergara‘s Golden Buzzer, singer Steve Ray Ladson.
But who moved on to the semifinals from Tuesday’s group? The first was a fan favorite, Jessica Sanchez, who first appeared on AGT in its first season when she was just 10 years old. Sanchez, who is eight months pregnant, wowed the judges on Tuesday night and clearly impressed viewers, too, as she received enough votes to advance.
However, the other two top vote-getters were a little more surprising. Joining Sanchez were freestyle rapper Chris Turner and A.I. magician Mastermind, the latter especially coming as a shock to many.
That meant we said goodbye to Anna Saranina, Austin Brown, Benn Family Band, Girish and the Chronicles, Jacqueline & Wagner, Maceo Harrison, and returning act the Messoudi Brothers, whom many had tipped as finalists and even potential winners.
Fans took to social media to share their reactions, with one user on the AGT Reddit forum saying, “One of Girish and the Chronicles and Messoudi Brothers not making the Top 5 is ridiculous.”
“Messoudi brothers were so robbed,” said another.
“The finale is just going to be singers and aerialists on roller skates,” another wrote.
Another added, “Terry [Crews] and Sofia both seemed genuinely shocked by that result.”
“You’re telling me MASTERMIND got more votes than Girish and the Chronicles??? What the f*** is America snorting?” one fan wrote.
“You truly have to be joking,” said another.
“Wow what a surprise… Besides Jessica, I was not expecting those results at all,” another added.
One fan wrote, “I sometimes don’t mind magic acts that seem staged but Mastermind was boring asffff…. Anyone else deserved that spot in my opinion but The Messoudi Brothers were especially robbed.”
However, others weren’t too disappointed with the results, with Turner, especially, getting lots of love.
“Happy about Chris! It’s not really a Vegas act but still really damn impressive and fun,” said one fan.
“Alright I’m pleasantly surprised by Chris making it,” added another.
“Good for Chris. He deserved it,” wrote one user.
Sanchez, Turner, and Mastermind will move on to the semi-finals, where they’ll join Week 1 vote-winners Jourdan Blue, LightWire, and Sirca Marea, and Week 2 vote winners Bay Melnick Virgolino, Leo High School Choir, and Unreal.
