North West’s apparent latest piercing is drawing attention.
The 12-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West was recently seen arriving in Venice amid the city’s film festival. She was there with her mother, who was honored with the humanitarian award at the DVF Awards.
North appeared to have a double dermal piercing in her middle finger, which folks online noted could also be seen in paparazzi photos from earlier in August. In a recent TikTok slideshow, North seemingly covered the area with a band-aid.
A dermal piercing is basically a piercing without an exit point, with the jewelry instead staying put due to an anchor under the skin. The skin must be cut by a piercer in order for the jewelry to be removed. It is also possible that it’s a surface piercing, connected by a metal bar under the skin. The finger is a challenging place for a piercing, as high movement areas are more likely to lead to rejection.
Amid a wider discussion on North’s clothing, some subsequently criticized Kim for allowing North to get the piercing, given that parental consent is required in many states:
Of course, North does also have a father, but Kim has previously spoken about “basically raising four kids by [herself].”
We’ll keep you posted if Kim comments on the situation.
