Laufey’s A Matter of Time tops multiple Billboard album charts, as the set debuts at No. 1 on Independent Albums, Jazz Albums, Traditional Jazz Albums and Vinyl Albums (all dated Sept. 6). The set — her third studio album — also makes top 10 arrivals on the overall all-genre Billboard 200 chart (No. 4, her first top 10 there) and the Indie Store Album Sales tally (No. 2).

A Matter of Time is her second leader on Independent Albums, third on Jazz Albums and Traditional Jazz Albums, and first on Vinyl Albums. On the Billboard 200, Laufey’s previous high-water mark came with her breakthrough second studio set, Bewitched, which peaked at No. 18.

Notably, on the Billboard 200, A Matter of Time marks the highest-debuting jazz album since the Dec. 1, 2018-dated chart, when Michael Bublé’s Love debuted and peaked at No. 2. (Jazz albums are defined as those that are eligible for, or have charted on, Billboard’s Top Jazz Albums chart.)

A Matter of Time starts with 99,000 equivalent album units earned — Laufey’s biggest week ever — according to Luminate. Of that sum, album sales comprise 71,000 (her best sales week; it debuts at No. 2 on Top Album Sales), while streaming equivalent album units and track equivalent album units comprise the remaining sum. The set’s first-week sales were bolstered by its availability across eight vinyl and three CD variants (each with one signed edition) and a cassette.

A Matter of Time was preceded by its chart hit “Silver Lining,” which reached No. 32 on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart in June.

Equivalent album units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. All Sept. 6, 2025-dated charts will be posted in full on Billboard’s website on Sept. 3, one day later than usual, owed to the Labor Day holiday on Sept. 1 in the U.S.
