Janhvi Kapoor has been through a lot at a young age. The gorgeousness was about to start her glorious career when her personal life fell apart after her mother, Sridevi’s untimely demise in Dubai in 2018. While the world was in shock, the actress, who had appeared in the public eye for the first time, faced intense scrutiny. Many years later, Janhvi reflected on the judgments and criticism she received during that time.
Janhvi Kapoor reacted to being trolled and judged after her mother, Sridevi’s death
Recently, in an interview with Vogue India, Janhvi Kapoor reacted to how people constantly judged her while she entered Bollywood right after her mother’s death. She stated that she and her younger sister never showed how much the criticism affected them after their mother’s passing. But it doesn’t mean that they are not human. Janhvi added that no one can understand what they have been through. She said:
“Where is this empathy? I want to see some of this empathy. Other people are cut a lot more slack. My sister and I have never let them see the cracks, and because of this, people have felt they can throw mud at us, that we are not really human. That took empathy and sympathy completely out of the question. We have had every reason in the book to be complete degenerates. I don’t think anyone can understand what we went through.”
Janhvi added that the pain of losing their mother is one thing, but she was hounded by the media. If she smiled during promotions, they would judge her, and if she stayed quiet, they would think she was cold. Her life became a meme. She said:
“The loss is one thing but the damage that came after really made me cynical about human nature. I would be hounded by the media and if I smiled to promote my film, I was criticised for seeming too okay. If I was quiet, then I was perceived as too cold. It’s unfathomable that it could become a meme. Imagine losing your mother and it’s entertainment for half the nation.”
Janhvi Kapoor revealed that her mother, Sridevi, was against her joining films
Furthermore, during the interview, when Janhvi was asked if her mother was against her joining films, she stated that it was more to protect her. She knew the weight of her legacy would be put on her children. Janhvi revealed that her mother would say that her first film would be compared to Sridevi’s 350th film, which is not fair. Janhvi was quoted as saying:
“I think she was coming from a place of wanting to protect her children. And she was cognisant of how much her legacy would weigh on us. I remember her telling me: “Your first film is not going to be compared to my first film, but to my 350th film. And that’s something that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.”
