Zohran Kwame Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York mayor, responded on Sunday to a racist post on X aimed at him. A user tried to target Mamdani by writing “This is for you bone-petite” while quoting another post that showed a picture of bacon and said, “just want to share bacon with you Muslim peeps.” Bacon is pork, which Muslims do not eat for religious reasons.
Mamdani, who is Muslim, replied with humour, writing, “My brother, this isn’t garlic and we’re not vampires…” His response relates to the idea that vampires are harmed by garlic.Zohran Mamdani has been at the receiving end of racists attacks by MAGA group. He was born in Uganda and came to the US at the age of seven in 1998. He became US citizen in 2018. The mayoral election will take place on November 4 this year. If elected, Zohran Kwame Mamdani would become New York City’s first Muslim and Indian American mayor.
