A woman’s Reddit post on whether she should leave US and take up a Rs 1.2 cr salary job in Bengaluru has gone viral.

A Reddit post by a 32-year-old married woman based in Denver has recently gone viral, with Indian Redditors advising the Indian-origin woman not to come back to India, leaving the cushioned life she has in Denver for a Rs 1.2 cr (per annum) job in Bengaluru. The woman narrated her situation that she and her husband have their own house on loan; they have a comfortable life, good friends and almost zero lifestyle stress. But it is for her parents that she is considering moving back to India, as she also has an offer of a Rs 1.2 cr job in Bengaluru. “I travel internationally each quarter, including India (I am a tenured employee and get lots of vacation days here) . And everytime I visit India, I get frustrated with how rude/angry/people are everywhere. Especially on roads, I could never drive there. But I visit once every year, and call my parents for a month,” the woman wrote.

“However, my family is in India, my parents are getting old, every time I visit, I see them getting older. Time feels like slipping away. Not being able to care for them is the worst feeling of all. They are not ready to move to US – the culture difference is a lot, they are used to their local town, friends, relatives,” the woman added, asking for advice from Reddit. The comment section was an outpouring of frustration as Redditors warned the woman against relocating to Bengaluru, citing traffic, work culture, and pollution etc. “I have lived in Denver and I live in Bangalore after returning for personal reasons. My advice would be to not to. You can live in a bubble in a gated community but once you are out of the gate, you have to survive the same infra and society as any other. You can only survive in india with that money, and not thrive. Parents can ideally live by themselves atleast till their 70s. You can get them to the US or get the living in help in India,” one wrote. Some Redditors also said Rs 1.2 crore salary is not good for Bengaluru. Some advised her to shift to a third place, like Singapore or Hong Kong, closer to India.
