Katie Holmes has wrapped up her summer of filming Happy Hours, the first in a romantic drama trilogy that she’s directing and starring in. Having had little time to enjoy New York summer—or show off her usual prowess of street style that many rely on for ushering in the next it-bag—she headed to the US Open, with a trend-tipping, tennis-appropriate outfit.
Holmes was photographed attending the tense match between Novak Djokovic and Cameron Norris, where she wore a gray and white grid print slip dress from Silk Laundry, with an oversized black leather biker jacket draped over her shoulders. She accessorized with the Tulipea bag (in an almost tennis ball shade of lime green) that’s forthcoming from Marni, brown A.P.C. sunglasses, and her go-to Schutz ballet flats. From the soon-to-be-cult bag in tennis ball tones to the print silk dress akin to a court net, it was both some light US Open cosplay and a tip for fall’s it items to come.

Holmes has an enviable collection of handbags, luxe and affordable, high and low. And a Katie Holmes spot will more than likely yield the forthcoming season’s it-bag to put on your seasonal wishlist. She’s been toting Max Mara’s reboot of their iconic Whitney bag in on-trend chocolate brown, but also has a penchant for a classic Chanel 19 Flap Bag and Celine Triomphe, the staple Le Cambon from Manu Atelier, and other purses by Khaite and Métier London. The “Tulipea” Marni bag that Holmes brought to the tennis match was teased on the brand’s fall 2025 runway, and is set to land sometime in September.

The last few months have seen Holmes deep in her work on Happy Hours, a new feature film trilogy she’s written, and in which she also stars, alongside former Dawson’s Creek co-star Joshua Jackson. While spinning these plates, she also made the case for herself as one of the best dressed directors in the game. Her director’s wardrobe has consisted of multiple variations of ballet flats and Mary Janes (the aforementioned Schutz pair too), relaxed denim jeans, and airy Oxford shirts.
Take her out to the (tennis) ball game, and Katie Holmes is going to hit it big.
