3 die as planes collide mid-air while landing at Fort Morgan Airport

Two small planes collided mid-air at Fort Morgan Municipal airport on Sunday morning which killed three passengers

The Morgan County Sheriff’s office stated that the planes collided near Fort Morgan Municipal Airport at about 10:40 am.

The two planes were a Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300. Both the planes collided while both aircraft were attempting to land.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), there were two people onboard on each of the two aircrafts.

According to the sheriff’s office, one of the planes caught fire while the other sustained significant damage.

Footage from the FAA tower webcam at the airport showed a plume of smoke visible from a distance.

Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the incident, with the NTSB taking the lead and providing further updates.

NTSB investigators are not expected to arrive at the scene until Monday afternoon. Once on site, they will begin documenting the area and conducting a detailed examination of the aircraft, the agency said.
