Actor Sidharth Malhotra’s ‘Param Sundari’ was expected to be yet another light-hearted cross-cultural romance. The romantic-comedy also features actor Janhvi Kapoor opposite him an unconventional story on North vs South divide. However, the film merely opened at Rs 7.25 crore on its first day, in spite of a stellar cast.

‘Param Sundari’ has collected Rs 7.25 crore on Friday, as reported by Sacnilk. The film had an overall 10.64% occupancy on Friday.

While director’s Mohit Suri’s ‘Saiyaara’ broke the myth around romantic films not working in Bollywood and became a blockbuster, ‘Param Sundari’ struggled on its opening day. On the contrary, ‘Saiyaara’, featuring debutant actor Ahaan Pandey opposite actor Aneet Padda earned Rs 21.5 crore on its first day of release.

Param Sundari is centered on a cross-cultural romance, telling the story of two lead characters who hail from Delhi and Kerala, respectively. The movie stars Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi, with Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya also appearing in pivotal roles. The film’s soundtrack, specifically the song Pardesiya, garnered a lot of acclaim even before its release.

‘Param Sundari’ received mixed reactions from audiences. One of the major concerns has been Janhvi’s casting as a Malayali girl in the movie. Earlier, Malayalam radio personality Pavithra Menon and content creator Steffi slammed the casting of Janhvi in the film.

India Today, in its review for the film, wrote, “‘Param Sundari’ had the potential to be a sparkling, one-of-its-kind rom-com – one that you could revisit for years. Instead, it settles for being a pretty postcard with good music and visuals. Sidharth and Janhvi may be styled to look like they are in love, but you never once believe they are. Guess all the close-ups of her eyes, and his bare-chest are not enough.”

‘Param Sundari’ is directed by Tushar Jalota and backed by producer Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.
