A Ukrainian lawmaker and former speaker of parliament was shot dead on Saturday in the western city of Lviv, authorities confirmed — a killing, President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced as a “horrific murder.“Police said the victim was gunned down in a hail of bullets but did not initially name him. Zelensky later identified the slain politician as Andriy Parubiy, who served as parliamentary speaker in the 2010s, and promised a full investigation.On X, the Ukrainian president wrote: “Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko have just reported the first known circumstances of the horrendous murder in Lviv.
