Guru Randhawa released his new single, Azul, on August 6, 2025, and it has gone viral for all the wrong reasons. The song is facing intense backlash, and the Indian singer has been slammed for his choice of lyrics and suggestive music video. Listeners have accused him of s**ualising minors through the song and advocating the problematic issue. Guru Randhawa has also faced court trouble due to another one of his songs, Sirra‘s lyrics, offending the Sikhs. Amid all the drama, he shared a cryptic response to the situation.

Guru Randhawa reacted to the Azul controversy through cryptic messages

After facing days of intense trolling due to his song and allegations of objectifying schoolgirls, Guru Randhawa broke his silence about the same on August 29, 2025, with an Instagram story. He shared a screenshot of the song’s streaming analytics, which showed it trending with high viewership. Along with the post, the singer also shared a cryptic message, expressing his gratitude to God for his success. The story’s caption can be read as:

“AZUL IS AZULING. When GOD is with you, you only move forward.”

The message was seen by many as his way of responding to the backlash by focusing on the song’s performance rather than directly addressing the criticism. A day later, Guru Randhawa shared another similar Instagram story, which included his decision to prioritise his happiness over pleasing others. The Punjabi message can be read as:

“Jado mein sab nu khush karn lagga Dukhi ho gya Ajj mein khud khush haan Sab dukhi ho gaye GOD.”

What was the public outrage surrounding Azul about?

Guru Randhawa’s music video for Azul included a photography teacher (played by the singer himself), who was tasked with taking photos of the students. However, the controversial part lies in the fact that he looked captivated by one of the students (played by Anshika Pandey). The actress was shown in a school uniform and performed a dance sequence for the teacher, while he filmed her legs, making viewers uncomfortable. Critics argued that even though the actress is an adult, her depiction as a student glamorises a predatory and unethical dynamic. Additionally, fans pointed out that the song’s lyrics explicitly compared schoolgirls to various types of alcohol, which was unacceptable.

Gura Randhawa faced a court summon for another of his songs

The Azul controversy is not the only issue Guru Randhawa is facing currently. He is embroiled in court trouble due to his song Sirra, which was released in July 2025. A complaint was filed against the Punjabi singer in a Ludhiana court, which subsequently issued a summons for the singer on September 2, 2025. He can either appear in person or send in a legal representative for the case’s hearing.

The complainant, Rajdeep Singh Mann, alleged that a specific line from Sirra promoted drug culture and defamed the Jatt community. The legal complaint also called out major streaming platforms, including YouTube, Spotify, and Amazon Music, for streaming and promoting the song. The translated controversial line can be read as:

“We are the sons of Jatts. We got opium as our first food when we were born.”
