Internationally renowned, multi-Michelin-starred chef and restaurateur Gordon Ramsay just revealed that he underwent treatment to remove skin cancer.
The 58-year-old celebrity culinarian shared an Aug. 30 Instagram post thanking the medical professionals who cared for him, and a warning to folks to get out in the sunlight.
“Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma thank you!” he wrote in the caption alongside two photos of the aftermath.
The National Institutes of Health describes Basal Cell Carcinoma as a common skin cancer caused by chronic sun exposure. Most basal cell carcinomas occur in areas constantly exposed, such as your head and neck.
“Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend ❤️I promise you it’s not a face lift! I’d need a refund,” he finished.
Gordon received several messages of support from people, including his daughter, who wrote, “Love you dad,” alongside a heart emoji.
Cancer Research UK praised Gordon for raising awareness, writing, “Glad to hear you’re doing well, Gordon, and thanks for raising awareness of how important it is to stay safe in the sun ❤️ Seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously.”
Even the doctor who apparently cared for him responded. Dermatologist Dr. Rakesh Anand wrote, “It was a pleasure to have looked after you, and thank you for raising awareness of skin cancer and the importance of sun protection. Wishing you a smooth recovery! 🙌☀️”
Glad to hear he’s doing well!
