A woman was allegedly forced to drink acid by her in-laws after their demands for dowry were not met in Uttar Pradesh’s Amorha. The woman, identified as Gul Fiza, succumbed to her injuries after battling for 17 days in a hospital in Moradabad.
The incident came to light when Gul Fiza’s father, Furqan, reported that his daughter Gul Fiza was married to Parvez from Kala Kheda village in Amroha about a year ago. Furqan alleged that, ever since the marriage, his daughter had been harassed by her husband, in-laws, and other family members for dowry.
On August 11, the harassment allegedly took a brutal turn when Gul Fiza’s in-laws forced her to drink acid. She was rushed to a hospital in Moradabad, where she remained under treatment for 17 days. Despite efforts by doctors, she died during treatment. Her post-mortem was also conducted in Moradabad.
Earlier, following a complaint by the victim’s father, police had filed a case against husband Parvez and his family members under sections related to dowry harassment, assault, and other charges. With Gul Fiza’s death, police said charges of murder are likely to be added against the accused.
According to the police, an FIR has already been registered in the case, and authorities said that after the post-mortem report, charges of murder will be added against the accused. “Police have started legal proceedings,” officials confirmed.
