The emerging China-Pakistan-Bangladesh nexus has become a major worry for Indians, with nearly half of the respondents in the latest India Today-CVoter Mood of the Nation (MOTN) survey expressing serious concern. According to the poll, 48% said they were “very worried” about the development, while 24% were “somewhat worried.” Only 20% felt the situation was not worrying.
The India Today-Cvoter Mood of the Nation (MOTN) poll was conducted between July 1 and August 14, 2025, surveying 54,788 individuals across all Lok Sabha segments. An additional 1,52,038 interviews from CVoter’s regular tracker data were also analysed. Thus, the opinion of a total of 2,06,826 respondents was considered for this MOTN report.
China continues to be viewed primarily through a security lens. Strengthening border security was identified as the top priority by 57% of respondents, a rise from 53.3% in the February 2025 edition of the MOTN survey. In comparison, trade (22%) and diplomacy (17%) ranked far lower, with support for diplomatic engagement sliding from 23% earlier this year.
At the same time, perceptions about engaging China revealed shifting global equations. A majority of 52% felt that closer trade and diplomatic ties with Beijing would strengthen India’s global position, while 26.3% believed such moves could undermine national security interests.
