Anne Hathaway is taking us on a tumble down memory lane.
Anne is reprising her role as Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada 2, along with Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, who will all return to their roles for the sequel.
But Anne is really falling back into character. On set for the sequel, she took a major tumble down a stoop when the heel of her shoe appeared to break off.
She quickly recovered, holding up a half-eaten bagel. “I’m fine!” she told the spectators, smiling.
It’s unclear if the fall was scripted, but either way I hope she received the proper care afterward.
The fall, being scripted or not, is so nostalgic, because if you remember in The Princess Diaries (2001), Anne’s character Mia Thermopolis accidentally falls on the bleachers while talking to her best friend Lilly.
In the ABC special The Happy Days of Garry Marshall, Anne explained that her fall was actually an unscripted moment. “We were filming in San Francisco, predictably it had rained,” Anne said. “We were outside and we had to get the shot really fast.” Unfortunately, Anne moved too quickly, slipped on the water, and burst out laughing.
Anne reshared a mash-up video of both falls with Madonna’s “Vogue” playing in the background on Instagram. She captioned the video, “Twenty years later, still falling for you… 💕”
So, it would totally make sense if Anne, one of the most graceful tumblers, were to give the lifelong Hathaway fans a callback to that iconic moment from The Princess Diaries. But, if it truly was an accident, I hope it makes it into the movie like last time.
People are singing Anne’s praises for her swift recovery from the fall. “Graceful as always, Anne,” one person wrote.
“What’s happens when we fall? We get back up and MOTHER,” another person wrote.
“Aw, love this! A true icon, always falling for us,” someone else said.
Finally, this person shared a helpful reminder that “a princess does not fall, she gracefully takes a seat then quickly gets back up!”
Glad she appears to be OK, and I can’t wait to actually watch The Devil Wears Prada 2 so I can stop obsessing over these behind-the-scenes photos.
