Cate Blanchett’s Sustainability Streak Continues at Venice Film Festival in Custom Armani Privé

When Cate Blanchett touched down on the red carpet Wednesday night at the Venice Film Festival, the Oscar winner blew a kiss to the crush of photographers and all the adoring fans lining the barricade. She might as well have blown one to her own closet.

Blanchett turned up for the opening night ceremony and world premiere of Paolo Sorrentino’s La Grazia in a custom look by Armani Privé. The fitted black gown features oversized gemstones and a plunging neckline, pockets and just enough of a train to add a little drama to an already daring ensemble. She complemented the look with Louis Vuitton jewelry and natural makeup.

A longtime muse of Giorgio Armani, Blanchett often picks Armani creations to wear in Venice, though she’s also been known to re-wear looks from her personal archive as a way to promote sustainability, eco-conscious moves made arm-in-arm with longtime stylist Elizabeth Stewart. Her showing on Wednesday night added another chic chapter in that tradition as she previously wore the Armani Privé look at the SAG Awards in 2022. (Stewart even pinned the original look on Instagram last night as a nod to the red carpet choice.)

Expect more head-turning looks from Blanchett this week as she’s in Venice for the world premiere of her newest film, Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother. She stars alongside Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Vicky Krieps, Sarah Greene, Indya Moore, Luka Sabbat and Françoise Lebrun. It’s described as a triptych with three stories focused on the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parent (or parents) and each other. Each of the three chapters takes place in the present, and each in a different country. Father is set in the north-east US, Mother in Dublin, and Sister Brother in Paris.
