Bollywood veteran Vidya Balan, celebrated for her powerful performances in films like The Dirty Picture, Kahaani, and Tumhari Sulu, has shared candid thoughts about the kind of roles she wants to pursue in her next phase as the cover girl of Peacock Magazine.

Vidya Balan reveals her next phase in films: “I just want to do something fun, light-hearted and goofy”

Speaking to the publication, Vidya revealed that her focus has shifted toward exploring freshness and fun in cinema. “For me today, a ‘good role’ is something I haven’t done before—something fresh, something that feels new to me. At this point, I just want to have fun with the films I do. I keep telling people, ‘I want to do a comedy! Something light-hearted, something goofy!’ I genuinely want to entertain,” she said.

Vidya elaborated on the evolution of her career, reflecting on the diversity of roles she has portrayed over the past two decades. “Over the past two decades, I’ve done all kinds of roles and stories, and I’m deeply grateful for that. But the phase I’m in right now—I want to do roles and films that I’ve not done before. Even if it’s a female-led film, I want to approach it with a sense of fun,” she added.

The actress also touched upon her current preferences as a moviegoer. She explained that she gravitates toward films that are light-hearted and entertaining, avoiding anything overly heavy or mentally taxing. “Honestly, that’s also what I’m gravitating towards as a movie watcher. I don’t enjoy watching anything that feels too heavy or intense or makes me think too much. So yes—Priyadarshan, Anees Bazmee… more of that energy,” Vidya shared.

This marks an intriguing turn for the actress, who has long been associated with strong, socially resonant performances. While she will continue to command attention with her nuanced portrayals, Vidya’s comments suggest an upcoming wave of comedy and light-hearted entertainment in her filmography—a departure that fans are eagerly anticipating. Her last outing, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, a horror-comedy, already hinted at this shift, showcasing her flair for humor while balancing entertaining elements with her signature depth.
