After a harrowing few days, Lil Nas X wants his fans to know that everything is going to be OK.
In a post to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday (Aug. 26), the “Old Town Road” singer shared his first public statement since being arrested Aug. 21 for allegedly charging at police officers. “Your girl is gonna be OK, y’all. OK?” he said in the video. “She’s gonna all right, she’s gonna be all right.”
On Aug. 21, police responded to calls about “a nude man walking in the street,” who was later confirmed to be Lil Nas X. When they approached him, law enforcement alleges the rapper “charged at officers and was taken into custody.” The LAPD also said that they immediately brought Lil Nas to a nearby hospital to be treated for a “possible overdose,” and then later booked him and held him in jail for three days.
At his arraignment hearing on Monday (Aug. 25), Lil Nas was charged with and pleaded not guilty to three felony counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. His bail was set at $75,000, which the rapper posted before being released from jail.
In his video shared on Tuesday, Lil Nas is wearing a neon green sweater as he takes a moment to smile and chuckle at the camera while saying that his experience since the encounter was “f–king terrifying” before reiterating that “your girl is gonna be all right.”
The rapper’s father, Robert Stafford, also shared a public statement outside a Los Angeles courthouse on Monday (Aug. 25), reassuring the public that his son was doing well. “He’s in good spirits, he’s all right,” Stafford said. “He’s very remorseful for what happened. But, it can happen to any family — he’s gonna get the help that he needs and just keep him in your prayers. Give him the same grace and mercy that God gives everyone.”
