Mamma Mia! hit $1.78 million last week as the revival continues to pull in Broadway audiences 10 years after its original run.
The musical brought in the tally in its first full week post-opening that included three press performances with some comped tickets. The show opened Aug. 14 and continues to play to 100 percent capacity. This was the highest grossing week yet for the show on Broadway, including its previous run from 2001 through 2015.
Purpose yet again hit its highest gross, at $856,241 last week and reached 100 percent capacity, as the play finishes up its run on Broadway. The family drama, which won the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for best play, is set to end its Broadway run Aug. 31, after opening March 17. Average ticket price jumped to $184 from $165 the prior week.
Jean Smart’s one-woman show Call Me Izzy finished its run at Studio 54 on Aug. 24. The show, which opened June 12, had a bumpy run on Broadway as Smart sustained a knee injury and had to be out of the show for a couple of weeks. It finished its run with a gross of $403,002 and upped its capacity to 82 percent.
Jeff Ross: Take A Banana For A Ride opened at the Nederlander Theatre on Aug. 18 to positive to mixed reviews. The comedy show played eight performances last week and brought in $115,845, the lowest gross on Broadway last week, with an average ticket price of $27.85 and played to 44 percent capacity.
Hamilton was the highest grossing show last week, with $2.1 million, followed by Wicked with $2 million, The Lion King with $1.82 million, Mamma Mia! with $1.78 million and Maybe Happy Ending with $1.4 million.
